These are the books I have most used while learning Spanish. A
number of others (that mostly sit on my bookshelf) have been useful
too.
The following two books are ‘about Spanish’ .. and have proved, to
me, to be especially valuable in the way they explain the words and
background of the language:
- A Comprehensive Etymological Dictionary of the Spanish Language
with Families of Words based on Indo-European Roots
Edward A. Roberts; Xlibris Corporation, 2014 (two volumes in softback,
also available in electronic form)
- ¿Por qué? 101 Questions About Spanish
Judy Hochberg; Bloomsbury Academic, 2016.
The following books have either been used during the course or I
have used them for private study:
- BBC Talk Spanish Box Set (Books 1 & 2), Almudena Sanchez et al;
20 Aug 2014
- Pasos 1 & 2 Spanish, Martyn Ellis and Rosa Maria Martin; 18 Jun
2015
- Ele Actual A2: Libro del alumno, Virgilio Borobio; 19 Jul 2019.
- Ele Nuevo Espanol en Marcha 3, Viúdez, Díez, and Francos; 2018
- ¡Exacto! A Practical Guide to Spanish Grammar, 2nd edition, Ortega,
Beaven, Garrido & Scrivener; 2009
My favourite English ↔ Spanish dictionaries are:
- Vox Super-Mini Spanish and English Dictionary, 3rd Edition – and
also the Vox Android and Windows apps, which have much more detail
and many more examples
- Oxford Compact Spanish–English dictionary – I mostly use the
Android app for this one.
