2025.02.18  Checklist for taking a panorama using the Syrp pan tilt + Lumix G90 (or other cameras with suitable 2.5mm remote cable).

Mechanical setup

  1. Assemble tripod and levelling head; set level using bubble level/plate if available.
  2. Add column extender as required.
  3. Attach Syrp pan-tilt to levelling head/column extender.
  4. Press On/Off (top right) button on Syrp; screen should light and clamp/top will level.

App setup

  1. Open Manfrotto App on phone
  2. Touch ‘Settings’: set Shutter signal (time to hold down shutter) to 0.5 seconds, then back ←.
  3. Touch ‘Create Content’ (or Bluetooth icon) for Connection screen.
  4. Touch red circle on right to connect (should turn to red tick, and Syrp screen will show ‘CONNECTED’); then ← to ‘Create’ screen’.

Camera setup

  1. Add camera & lens + hood to Syrp, using intermediate plate (as necessary/preferred).
    Roughly offset (push back) for no-parallax point (rely on software unless close objects).
  2. Plug cable between camera 2.5mm socket (4-segment) and Syrp 2.5mm socket (3-segment).
  3. Select delay shoot on top-left knob (2-sec in camera setup).
  4. Turn on camera; mode knob C1 (if set up):  A, f/5.6, ISO 100, Elec. shutter, 2-sec delay.
  5. Check camera level on screen, if lines not green adjust levelling base.
  6. If using a zoom lens, set to desired length.

Fix focus & exposure

  1. In App, from ‘Create’, touch ‘Live Control’ to set camera (T) tilt=0 and (P) pan to point of interest.
  2. Switch to MF, then focus (first touch [AF] on-screen, then fine-tune using peaking).
  3. Take single shot (this records horizon and also measures exposure).
    Record compass bearing of prominent feature for later Set North and/or GPS.
  4. Press AF/AE Lock toggle button (according to camera setup) to lock exposure.
    ‘AEL’ should show at bottom left.
    NB: Many things (e.g., touch shutter) turn off AE Lock.
  5. Use ← to ‘Create’ screen’.

App

  1. From ‘Create’, touch ‘Panorama’ → Panorama Configuration (one-off settings):
    Sensor Size: Micro Four Thirds; Focal Length: 75mm/zoom setting (can be changed later);
    Aspect ratio: 4:3; Orientation: Landscape; ‘Tick’ to continue.
  2. Set ‘start’ (bottom left) and ‘end’ (top right) points, then ‘Tick’.
    → grid of expected photos shown, along with easy-access settings at top and bottom.
    • at top: Wait Time: 3.5 secs (tap to change) .. this is for whole exposure, including 2-sec delay.
    • at bottom: always tap Focal Length and ensure matches lens setting.
  3. Touch solid red ‘Rec’ button; panorama capture sequence should commence.

After capture, reset/reload icon reverts position to bottom-left to allow repeat.

When done:

  1. Press camera AF/AE Lock toggle and change shooting mode as required.
  2. Turn off  Camera.
  3. Turn off  Syrp: about a 1-sec press & release.
