2024.12.20 Checklist for taking a panorama using the Syrp pan tilt + Lumix
G90 (or other cameras with suitable 2.5mm remote cable).
Mechanical set-up
- Assemble tripod and levelling head; set level using bubble level/plate
if available.
- Add column extender as required.
- Attach Syrp pan-tilt to levelling head/column extender.
- Press On/Off (top right) button on Syrp; screen should light and
clamp/top will level.
App setup
- Open Manfrotto App on phone
- Touch Home screen ‘Settings’: set Shutter signal (time to hold down
shutter) to 0.5 seconds.
- Touch ‘Create Content’ (or Bluetooth icon) for Connection screen.
- Touch red circle on right to connect (should turn to red tick, and
Syrp screen will show ‘CONNECTED’); then back arrow to ‘Create’ screen’.
Camera set-up
- Add camera & lens + hood to Syrp, using intermediate plate (as
necessary/preferred).
Roughly offset (push back) for no-parallax point (rely on software
unless close objects).
- Plug cable between camera 2.5mm socket (4-segment) and Syrp 2.5mm
socket (3-segment).
- Select delay shoot on top-left knob (2-sec in camera setup).
- Turn on camera; mode knob C1 (if set up): A, f/5.6, ISO 100, Elec.
shutter, 2-sec delay.
- Check camera level on screen, if lines not green adjust levelling
base.
- If using a zoom lens, set to desired length.
Fix focus & exposure
- From ‘Create’, touch ‘Live Control’ in app to set camera tilt=0
and pan to point of interest.
- Switch to MF, then focus (first touch [AF] on-screen, then fine-tune
using peaking).
- Take single shot (this records horizon and also measures exposure).
Record compass bearing of prominent feature for later Set North
and/or GPS.
- Press AF/AE Lock toggle button (according to camera setup)
to lock exposure.
‘AEL’ should show at bottom left.
NB: Many things (e.g., touch shutter) turn off AE Lock.
- Use back arrow to ‘Create’ screen’.
App
- From ‘Create’, touch ‘Panorama’ → Panorama Configuration (one-off
settings):
Sensor Size: Micro Four Thirds; Focal Length: 75mm/zoom setting
(can be changed later);
Aspect ratio: 4:3; Orientation: Landscape; ‘Tick’ to continue.
- Set start (bottom left) and end (top right) points.
→ grid of expected photos shown, along with easy-access settings
at top and bottom.
- at top: Wait Time: 3.5 secs (tap to change) .. this is for whole
exposure, including 2-sec delay.
- at bottom: always tap Focal Length and ensure matches lens
setting.
- Touch solid red ‘Rec’ button; panorama capture sequence should commence.
After capture, reset/reload icon reverts position to bottom-left
to allow repeat.
When done:
- Press camera AF/AE Lock toggle and change shooting mode as required.
- Turn off Camera.
- Turn off Syrp: about a 1-sec press & release.
